BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (June 5, 2018) — VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People) announces the official launch of its new Mobile Food Pantry.  This will be an opportunity for the community to enjoy refreshments and see the newly branded Mobile Food Pantry for the first time. Guests include Bloomington Mayor Gene Winstead, who will be declaring June Connecting Our Community Through Food Month.  VEAP volunteers, staff, clients, residents and community partners will celebrate together.

The VEAP Mobile Food Pantry provides greater and more frequent access to the food needed most by children, seniors and families in the community. VEAP’s partners in this project are Thermo King which provided funding for planning and beginning distribution, and Western National Insurance Group which donated the funds to buy the vehicle.

Before its official launch this month, the Mobile Food Pantry has already begun distributing fresh fruits and vegetables at Southgate Apartments and Dar Al-Farooq on Wednesdays and Fridays respectively. These distributions are going well with about 40 families receiving food at each distribution. VEAP plans to add more locations in the coming months.

Research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates the lack of adequate consumption of specific foods — such as fruits, vegetables, or dairy products — is associated with lower grades among children and students and poorer health for adults and seniors.  “VEAP and our partners feel it is a shared responsibility to give everyone the nutritional opportunities needed to become stronger and healthier,” says Jill Holter, Marketing and Strategic Partnership Associate Director of VEAP. “And in turn, VEAP’s mobile food pantry will foster stronger communities and deepen social connections”

VEAP is a basic needs organization whose programs include access to healthy foods, housing stability, transportation and other supportive services. VEAP programs are available to residents of Bloomington, Richfield, Edina and a portion of South Minneapolis.  For more information, visit
