SUMMARY:MINNEAPOLIS COLLEGE AND METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS OF THEATRE PRESENT KISS
DESCRIPTION:The Theatre Arts departments at Minneapolis College and Metropolitan State University (Theater Underground) will present KISS\, by Guillermo Calderon\, November 14-22\, 2019\, in the Whitney Fine Arts Center Theater on the Minneapolis College campus. Acclaimed Chilean playwright Guillermo Calder n's KISS is a masterwork of dramatic irony\, political insurgency\, farce and tragedy. In the heart of the Syrian conflict\, two couples meet for their weekly soap opera viewing party\, but that standing double date quickly turns to a strange soap opera of its own. Scandal\, secrets\, and a mysterious visitor enter the scene\, leaving the audience to wonder what is fact and what is fiction? "Producing this play right now\, is particularly important as we are asking new and difficult questions about story and perspective questions about our role and responsibility as artists\, about who gets to tell what story\, and what it means to tell stories that are not our own\," says play director Jonathan Beller. KISS breaks open cultural barriers\, challenges us to confront the limits of our own understanding\, and exposes what gets lost when a work of art is divorced from its communal context. KISS will run November 14\, 15\, 16 and 22 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 16 and 23 at 1 p.m. Admission is free for all performances. Audience members are asked to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Emergency Foodshelf Network of Hennepin County. Parking is available in the 1501 Hennepin Avenue ramp (free with student ID) and persons with disabilities who need reasonable accommodation to participate in this event should contact the Accessibility Resource Center at 651-793-1549 or e-mail Accessibility.Resources@metrostate.edu. Minneapolis College is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system and offers students more than 100 liberal arts\, career and technical programs designed to prepare them for good jobs in high-demand professions or to transfer to a four-year college or university. Located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis\, more than 10\,000 students enroll annually in credit and non-credit programs. The College's Foundation provides scholarships and emergency assistance awards to highly motivated\, low-income students. Without this support\, most of these students would be unable to pursue their academic dreams. For additional information\, please visit Minneapolis.edu. # # #
