(MINNEAPOLIS – October 18, 2019) — Architect Matt Johnson, AIA, LEED AP has rejoined DLR Group as a client leader and project manager. Based in the firm’s Nicollet Mall office, Johnson is responsible for collaborating with design teams to deliver built solutions that meet the ever-changing needs of the firm’s hospitality, mixed-use, and workplace clients.

“Matt is a dynamic leader within the Twin Cities architectural community,” said DLR Group Senior Principal Thomas Gerster, AIA. “As a client leader, he challenges our teams to think about how design can respond effectively to industry best practices in a way that improves our clients’ business and overall well-being.”

Johnson previously worked at DLR Group from 1994-2012, helping build the firm’s local and regional practice. He brings nearly 30 years of experience leading complex projects and programs for a variety of client types. Leveraging his knowledge and expertise, Johnson identifies each client’s dreams and aspirations and works to bring those visions to reality. He advocates for innovation and learning throughout each project and seeks to provide mentorship for DLR Group’s up-and-coming designers.

“I am excited to be part of an organization that champions great design, understands the critical importance resiliency has to our profession and our clients, and has the technical prowess to put together great buildings,” said Johnson.

Johnson is a strong believer in community service and giving back, both personally and professionally. His involvement includes serving as an elected member of the Savage (MN) City Council, and previously, as a member of the City’s planning commission. He has held leadership positions within the American Institute of Architects locally and nationally and is currently completing a 3-year term on the AIA’s Strategic Council.
