Metro - I-35W Minnesota River Bridge: 2018-2021 construction

  • Share:
August 15, 2018
Beginning at 7 p.m. Thu, Oct. 18,  you will encounter alternating lane closures on southbound I-35W between 106th St. and Cliff Rd. as crews begin implementing a long term lane closure. Once Complete, southbound I-35W will be reduced from four lanes to three lanes through the summer of 2021.

At the same time the ramp from 106th St. to southbound I-35W will close and will remain closed through 2021. Motorists should follow the signed detour using northbound I-35W and 98th St. in order to access I-35W southbound.

Trail/sidewalk closures
Crews will begin daily closures of the Minnesota River Bottoms Trails on the west side of I-35W within the construction area beginning as early as tomorrow. These closures will be Mon. through Fri.; 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily so crews can complete pile driving near the trail in a safely.

Note: this work is planned for weekdays only however, the construction crews may occasionally need a Saturday in case of inclement weather during the week.

Ongoing lane closures
Don’t forget, if you are driving on I-35W overnight you could still encounter lane closures in both directions between Cliff Rd. and 106th St. beginning as early as 7 p.m. The road could also be reduced to a single lane in both directions starting at 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. the following morning. The overnight lane closures will last through the fall, occurring each day.

More about this project
The I-35W Minnesota River Bridge project will include reconstructing the I-35W and the 106th St. Bridges spanning the Minnesota River, replacing pavement from Cliff Rd. to 106th St. and constructing a trail between Black Dog Rd. and Lyndale Ave.
